Here are five of the popular species we regularly catch on our fishing charters……
Tasty Sweetlip & Emperor Family
The sweetlip is popular in the sea grass habitat and alongside the Sunshine Coast coral reefs. The fish exhibits a growth rate of between 30 to 40 centimeters, but the maximum length stretches up to 55 cm.
Their distinction identification marks include the black markings on the anterior upper sides.
Snapper
In the fish trips here, one of the renowned fish species is the snapper. Full grown snappers are found in deep waters while their fingerlings can be found strayed in estuaries and sheltered bays. They exhibit a growth rate of about 1.3 meters, and can fairly be caught throughout the year, but their peak season starts between November and ends in January. It is a delicious dish meal, with a strong fishy taste. It comprises of rich white meat that can be converted to bakes, grills, cutlets, fillets, and barbeques depending on your preference.
Coral Trout and Reef cod
Popular around the reef areas, and this defines their name. They prey on crustaceans like prawns, and they are the fishermen favorite catch. The reef cod is one of the favorite fish enjoyed by the locals. The fish dwell as predators. You could enjoy catching these types too.
Red Emperor
The deeply red body colored fish is found offshore amidst the reefs. The specie is a member of the sea perch and snapper family while they are closely tied to a Mangrove Jack. They inhabit the water with approximate 10 to 140 meters in-depth. Theory sources of food include the octopus, crabs, squid and other fish.
Wrasse – Parrot fish
The fish also identified as the parrot fish forms the larger and diverse sub-family; it has over 600 species which can get identified using their parrot-like beak. The carnivores feed on a wide variety of selected invertebrates.
